Larry R. Martinez



Larry is Co-Chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group where he represents management in a broad array of multi-state labor and employment matters.

He has successfully defended private and public sector clients in federal and state courts as well as administrative tribunals including the New York State Division of Human Rights, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. Larry has also represented clients in mediations and arbitrations administered by the American Arbitration Association.

Prior to joining the firm, Larry was employed at Littler Mendelson, P.C. where he represented clients in the health care and financial services industries in wage and hour and employment discrimination cases.

Previously, Larry was an Assistant Corporation Counsel (“ACC”) at the New York City Law Department, Office of the Corporation Counsel. As an ACC in the Labor and Employment Division, Larry represented the City of New York and its agencies in all affirmative and defensive litigation arising out of the City’s role as the employer of more than a quarter-million workers. Larry has successfully litigated a broad range of employment and civil rights matters including claims concerning the First Amendment free speech rights of municipal employees, claims of discrimination and retaliation under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the State and City Human Rights Laws. Larry has also defended clients in collective actions brought pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act as well as claims brought by both individual City employees and unions based on collective bargaining agreements and the Civil Service Law.

Larry was awarded the 2008 “Legal Rookie of the Year Award” by the Corporation Counsel, Michael Cardozo, and was a 2010 nominee for the New York City Bar Association’s “Municipal Affairs Award,” which recognizes outstanding achievement at the New York City Law Department. In 2015, Larry was featured in Long Island Business News’ “Who’s Who” series.  In 2015 – 2019, Larry  is featured in Super Lawyers’ New York Metro Rising Stars List.

Larry received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Albany Law School of Union University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and French Studies from Wesleyan University, in Middletown, Connecticut. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French.

He is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the U.S. District Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit.
