Chris is Counsel to the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group. He has successfully represented management in virtually every aspect of the employer/employee relationship for more than 25 years, including as in-house counsel to a Fortune 500 metals producer, where he managed the employee and labor relations function covering nearly 30 union and non-union worksites nationwide.
Chris provides effective management-side advice to companies ranging from large corporations to family-owned businesses in industries as diverse as manufacturing, aerospace, healthcare, steel, cable, hospitality, retail, education, entertainment, mining, utility, nuclear energy, construction, transportation, security and building services.
Chris routinely helps his clients defeat union organizing drives, decertify incumbent unions, win arbitrations, gain favorable outcomes in collective bargaining negotiations and defend against unfair labor practice charges before the NLRB. A believer in crisis prevention, Chris regularly provides his clients with practical day-to-day advice regarding contract administration, grievance handling and positive employee relations practices. He conducts union vulnerability audits and has trained thousands of supervisors in labor law and procedure, union organizing techniques and effective union avoidance.
Chris also defends his clients against discrimination and harassment claims before the EEOC, the New York State Division of Human Rights and numerous fair employment practice agencies across the country. He partners with clients to develop effective human resource policies and provides practical advice to ensure compliance with the often tangled web of workplace regulation. He assists clients manage mass layoffs and plant closings and helps to protect their interests by drafting employee manuals and non-compete and separation agreements.
Chris litigates discrimination, sexual harassment, wage and hour, RICO and NLRA §10(j) proceedings as well as ERISA benefit, delinquent contribution and withdrawal liability actions, where he has achieved positive results for his clients, including favorable settlements and numerous summary judgment awards.
Chris received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and his Juris Doctor from the Hofstra University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
