Mineola, NY — Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone, LLP, is proud to announce its support for the New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund and their “Kick Off to Summer” benefit” taking place May 2014.

Partner and “Kick Off to Summer Benefit” committee member Jonathan Farrell stated, “Meltzer Lippe takes great pride in serving those who serve us; supporting the Benefit Fund’s efforts to be there for the families of our police, fire and emergency service personnel is a cause the whole firm is excited to rally behind.”

The Benefit Fund, and its cause, first came to the firm’s attention through attorney Norman Cerullo, Counsel to the Meltzer Lippe litigation practice and a member of the Benefit Fund Jr. Committee Board of Directors.

A member of Norm’s family was a New York Police Officer killed-in-action; as a result Norman has been a supporter of The Fund for many years. In 2011, when Norman joined Meltzer Lippe, he educated the firm about the Fund and its innumerable good deeds. Consequently Meltzer Lippe has been pleased to support The Fund, sponsors the “Game & Family Day” at Citi Field and is now actively raising funds to support the Benefit Fund 2014 “Kick Off to Summer” benefit.  The firm will be exercising its financial support through Norman’s fund-raising page.

Past “Kick Off to Summer Benefit” Honorary Chairs include Scarlett Johansson, Allison Williams, and Vincent Piazza. The funds raised from this event will allow the Benefit Fund to continue to provide financial assistance and additional programs to future families.

About the Benefit Fund
The New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund– founded in 1985 by Daniel J. “Rusty” Staub is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the families of New York City Firefighters, Police Officers, Port Authority Police, and EMS personnel killed in the line of duty. Immediately upon the death of one of these first responders, The Fund provides the grieving family with $25,000 and every year thereafter, that family becomes part of our family and receives an annual distribution of $4,000 for the remainder of each widow or widower’s life.

Aside from the financial assistance, the Benefit Fund also provides a network of support and gatherings for our families to connect and cope. Relying solely on the support of private contributions, the Benefit Fund has distributed over $126 million to the families of fallen first responders since its inception. In 2012 alone, the Benefit Fund distributed over $2.4 million to over 600 families.
